Model UN simulates United Nations symposiums, and student delegates learn about international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. In Model UN, students debate issues that confront world leaders and find solutions to these global challenges. At WPGA, Model UN spans grades 7-12. Since 2009, senior students (grades 10-12) have hosted Vancouver Youth Model UN (VYMUN), a Model UN for students in grades 7-9 from schools in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. VYMUN gives novice MUNers the opportunity to develop their negotiation and diplomacy skills, and this event has established WPGA as a premier Model UN school.
Each year, senior school students also have the opportunity to participate in two to three national and international Model UNs, including McGill Model UN (SSUNS), Harvard Model UN (MUN) and HMCE (Athens, Greece, Brussels and Belgium). WPGA students have consistently received top awards at these events and have been recognized seven times as the top school delegation.
